DRYPOINT, COLLAGRAPH & MONOPRINT beginning Wednesday 12th June 2024
Spend four weeks with two printmakers; Nichola Kent & Nichola Goff at The Yard Print Studio exploring intaglio and monoprinting techniques through drypoint, collagraph and monoprint.
Over the four weeks you will learn how to create drypoint and collagraph plates as well as use monoprint and chine collé to produce rich and vibrant intaglio prints.
About the techniques:
Through drypoint and collagraph methods participants will make printing plates by scoring, manipulating and tearing surfaces, adding found materials and working into the plates using specialist tools to create tonal textures that will hold printing ink. Plates will be printed using an etching press.
Monoprinting is a playful experimental printmaking method applying ink to the plate then working into the ink itself to produce one-off results that can have a lively spontaneous feel.
Chine collé is a method of incorporating light weight papers such as coloured tissue or cut-outs from newspapers to a print allowing for a wide scope of added possibilities to just one printing plate.
This course covers all the basics of these techniques and participants will be encouraged to explore, play and get experimental with outcomes.
