Stories & Journeys
A year long residency at the Elidir Renal Unit in Ysbyty Gwynedd (Gwynedd Hospital in Bangor), working creatively with dialysis patients, staff and family. The residency was part of the North Wales Arts in Health & Wellbeing programme, supported by ADDO, Arts Council Wales and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The residency culminated in an interactive story trail inviting people to move around the hospital following a map to find audio stories from patients and maps of their worlds. The world of dialysis is a difficult and restricted one meaning the lives of patients and families are unique in experience. The installation offered insight into peoples experiences and a chance for participants to explore and express something about their lives. The work was further exhibited at Bangor museum and art gallery in 2012 alongside ‘The Waiting Room’ an installation by Michael McMillan, artist in residence on Allaw cancer Unit and Rheumatology clinic.
“This exhibition is a vivid and startling reminder of the imagination and creativity which can be unlocked and expressed even in the most difficult circumstances. It is impressive testimony of the value of art and of story-telling in a health care setting”
Health Board Chairman Prof Merfyn Jones
